Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding and the China Maritime Safety Administration (MSA) have signed a contract for the construction of a large patrol boat.

The 165- by 20.6-metre, helicopter-capable vessel will be deployed on maritime law enforcement and navigation safety missions, including search and rescue (SAR) operations, in the South China Sea.

Huangpu Wenchong claims it will be the first 10,000-tonne vessel built in China to be officially designated a patrol boat.
