On Thursday, June 4, shortly after 16:45 local time, the Hamilton Police Service (HPS) of Hamilton, Ontario, responded to a report of a recreational boat on fire on Lake Ontario just north of Van Wagners Beach.

The HPS Marine Unit deployed to the area after receiving a call from a boater in distress after their vessel caught on fire approx 1.5 kilometres north of Van Wagners Beach.

The three occupants aboard were all wearing life jackets and were forced to evacuate for safety reasons.

The two adult males and one adult female were quickly located by the HPS Marine Unit. All three were found floating near their vessel, which had become fully engulfed in flames by the time the marine unit arrived.

The three occupants were safely recovered and transported back to shore, where police, fire, and medical units were waiting to provide any additional assistance.

The HPS said the three boaters were all transported to hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
