Fire hits berthed cargo launch in Sorsogon, Philippines

The Philippine Coast Guard has responded to an incident wherein a fire broke out on a berthed cargo vessel at Bulan Port in Sorsogon province on Wednesday, March 2.

Coast guard personnel were conducting a pre-departure inspection on board another vessel when they observed that the cargo launch Cooperative SJM-7, which was berthed nearby, was ablaze.

The vessel had eight crewmembers on board when the incident occurred. All eight individuals were evacuated without injury.

Personnel from the coast guard and the local fire department were still working to extinguish the blaze as of 15:50 local time on Wednesday.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.
