The Turkish government has begun a programme to design, develop, and build new submarines locally for the country’s navy.

The submarines to be built under the Milli Denizalti (“National Submarine”) or MiLDEN programme will feature air independent propulsion (AIP) and armament consisting of advanced heavy torpedoes and guided missiles.

All MiLDEN submarines will be constructed at Gölcük Naval Shipyard with the first unit expected to be delivered by 2040.
