TKMS delivers third Type 209 submarine to Egypt

S43, the third of four Type 209 diesel-electric submarines ordered for the Egyptian Navy, has been delivered by ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS).

The submarine has a length of approximately 62 metres, a hull diameter of 6.2 metres, a submerged displacement of 1,600 tonnes, and a crew of 30.

Armament will consist of 533-millimetre torpedoes, Harpoon anti-ship missiles, and naval mines.

S44, the fourth submarine in the class slated for Egypt, is expected to be handed over in 2021.
