The Swedish Ministry of Defence, through the Defence Materiel Administration (Forsvarets materielverk; FMV), has awarded local shipbuilder Saab a contract to continue the development and production of the A26 or Blekinge-class diesel-electric submarines for the country’s navy.

The contract also covers the expansion of the capabilities of the first two A26 boats previously ordered by Sweden.

The contract value is SEK5.2 billion (US$602.3 million). The delivery of the two submarines will take place in 2027 and 2028.
