The newbuild diesel-electric attack submarine Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky was handed over to the Russian Navy in a ceremony at Saint Petersburg on Monday, November 25.

Built by United Shipbuilding Corporation’s (USC) Admiralty Shipyard, the new Project 636.3 or Improved Kilo-class submarine will be assigned to the Russian Pacific Fleet along with five other sister vessels currently in various stages of construction.

Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky has a surface displacement of 2,000 tonnes, a submerged displacement of 4,000 tonnes, a speed of 20 knots, a crew of 50, and a maximum endurance of 45 days. Armament includes 533-millimetre torpedoes and Kalibr cruise missiles.
