Naval Group unveils fully electric concept submarine design
Naval Group recently unveiled the SMX31 Electric, a concept submarine design that will feature fully electric propulsion and stealth technology.
The submarine will have a length of 70 metres and a displacement of 3,000 tonnes.
Electric will be powered by lithium-ion batteries that will also enable it to stay submerged for up to 40 days at a sailing speed of six knots.
Armament will include torpedoes, mines, cruise missiles, and anti-ship missiles. It will also be capable of embarking a small special operations team for clandestine missions.
As a nearly fully automated submarine, Electric will only require a crew of 15.
