The Indian Navy commissioned its newest diesel-electric submarine into service on Wednesday, March 10.

INS Karanj is the third submarine in the Kalvari-class, which are Indian-built variants of the Scorpene-class developed by France's Naval Group.

Like its sisters, Karanj was built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders in Mumbai.
