Huntington Ingalls Industries’ (HII) Newport News Shipbuilding launched the future US Navy nuclear-powered attack submarine USS Montana into Virginia’s James River on Wednesday, March 3.

The 7,800-tonne Virginia-class submarine, which had been in a floating drydock since being transferred from a construction facility in October, was submerged and moved by tugs to the shipyard’s submarine pier for final outfitting, testing, and crew certification.

The future Montana is scheduled for delivery to the navy later this year.
