Remontowa launches Poland’s second Project 258 minehunter, lays keel of third

MARITIME SECURITY WEEK

Remontowa Shipbuilding has christened and launched the future ORP Albatros, the second Project 258 or Kormoran II-class mine countermeasures vessel (MCMV) slated for the Polish Navy.

Albatros will undergo further outfitting, which the builders expect to be completed by January 2020. Trials and qualifications will then be carried out in the months before the vessel’s commissioning, which is scheduled for February 2021.

On the same day as Albatros‘ launching, Remontowa laid the keel of the future ORP Mewa (“Seagull”), the third Project 258 ship.

Once completed, Albatros and Mewa will each have a length of 58.5 metres, a beam of 10.3 metres, and a draught of 2.7 metres.
