The Dutch Ministry of Defence has confirmed its plans to supply two Royal Netherlands Navy mine countermeasures (MCM) vessels as part of a military aid package for Ukraine.

The transfer of the two 1980s-built Alkmaar-class vessels is scheduled for 2025 shortly after the Royal Netherlands Navy takes delivery of newer MCM ships. The training of Ukrainian Navy crews who will man the vessels will already commence in the second half of this year.

The ministry said the Belgian government will also support the training of Ukrainian crews.
