Mazagon Dock launches Indian Navy’s first Project 17A stealth frigate

The Indian Navy’s first stealth frigate under Project 17A was launched at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders’ facilities in Mumbai on Saturday, September 28.

The completed warship will be commissioned into service as INS Nilgiri. It will have a length of 149 metres, a beam of 17.8 metres, and a displacement of 6,670 tonnes.

The frigate will be propelled by two diesel and two gas turbine powerplants in a CODAG configuration and will be able to achieve sustained speeds in excess of 28 knots.

A total of seven warships will be built under Project 17A. Four will be constructed by Mazagon Dock.
