Keel laid for future US Navy LCS Savannah

The US Navy held a keel-laying and authentication ceremony for the future littoral combat ship (LCS) USS Savannah at Austal USA’s shipyard in Mobile, Alabama, on Friday, September 20.

The vessel will be the 14th Independence-class LCS to be built by Austal USA for the US Navy. It will honour Savannah, the first city to be formally established in the US state of Georgia.

The future Savannah will have a length of 127.4 metres, a beam of 31.6 metres, a draught of 4.27 metres, a displacement of 210 tonnes, and speeds in excess of 40 knots.
