Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) will begin conducting sea trials of the future Philippine Navy frigate BRP Jose Rizal on Saturday, November 23.

The trials will be carried out in the waters off Ulsan, Busan, and Mokpo over a span of four days. Representatives from Lloyd’s Register will be in attendance to ensure that the vessel’s construction complies with existing standards.

The future Jose Rizal is the lead ship of a class of two 107-metre frigates ordered by the Philippines from HHI. The second frigate, the future BRP Antonio Luna, was launched into the water for the first time earlier this month.

Both vessels are expected to be delivered to the Philippines by 2020.
