Damen Shipyards Sharjah in the UAE launched a new Nigerian Navy landing ship tank (LST) into the water on Monday, June 7.

Once completed, the vessel will have a length of 100 metres, space for 32 crewmembers and up to 450 other personnel, and two Caterpillar 3516 engines.

The LST will also be used for the secondary roles of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) and protection of maritime assets. It will replace two older landing ships in Nigerian Navy service.
