Nigerian oil company Aiteo has handed over 50 vessels to the Nigerian Navy to help enhance the service’s ability to combat piracy and oil smuggling in the country’s waters.

Navy chief Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo said the boats will be operated primarily within the Niger River Delta region.

The donated vessels include a mix of armed patrol boats and houseboats.
