The Royal Navy support ship RFA Mounts Bay has recovered a bale containing cannabis while on a counter-drug patrol in the Caribbean.

The ship was conducting a training exercise with its embarked team of US Coast Guard (USCG) counter-narcotics personnel at an undisclosed location off the coast of South and Central America when it chanced upon a bale floating in the water.

The USCG Law Enforcement Detachment (LEDET) personnel recovered the bale and tested its contents, which were later confirmed to be 22 kilograms of cannabis.

The seized cannabis, which is worth upwards of £4 million (US$5.23 million) to street dealers in the UK, was subsequently handed over to the US Coast Guard Cutter Isaac Mayo for destruction.
