RFA Argus sails for Caribbean to support UK’s COVID-19 response

The Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessel RFA Argus has set sail for the Caribbean in preparation to support the British Overseas Territories during the upcoming hurricane season and to assist with the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Argus‘ deployment to the Caribbean had been scheduled for the hurricane season, but the vessel will now be able to help ensure the UK Government will be equipped to support the overseas territories during the pandemic.

A medical team could later join Argus in the Caribbean should the need arise. At the moment, the vessel’s only cargo consists of hurricane relief stores such as water and ration packs as well as materials for repairing damage and clearing blocked roads in support of local emergency services.
