Sixth Mark IV LCU commissioned into Indian Navy

LCU 56, the sixth of eight Mark IV Landing Craft Utility (LCU) vessels built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), was commissioned into the Indian Navy on Monday, July 29.

The vessel has a length of 62.8 metres, a beam of 11 metres, a draught of 2.2 metres, and a full load displacement of 1,000 tonnes.

Although designed primarily to transport armoured vehicles, troops, and equipment between larger navy ships and shore, LCU 56 is armed with two 30-millimetre naval guns and 12.7-millimetre and 7.62-millimetre machine guns for limited defence against surface and air threats.
