US Navy to christen littoral combat ship Minneapolis-Saint Paul

The future USS Billings, a Freedom-class littoral combat ship

The US Navy will christen its newest Freedom-class littoral combat ship (LCS), the future USS Minneapolis-Saint Paul, on Saturday, June 15.

The LCS will be the second US Navy ship to be named in honour of the state of Minnesota’s famed Twin Cities as a whole. The first was a Los Angeles-class attack submarine that had served from 1984 to 2008.

Like its Freedom-class sisters, the future Minneapolis-Saint Paul will have a length of 378 feet (115 metres), a beam of 57.4 feet (17.5 metres), and a speed of 40 knots.
