DSME wins South Korean Navy submarine rescue ship contract

Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) has won a contract to build and deliver an ASR-II submarine rescue ship for the South Korean Navy.

Construction of the vessel is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.

The vessel will be able to launch and recover a deep sea rescue vehicle (DSRV) capable of retrieving the crews of distressed submarines in depths of up to 500 metres as well as a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) that can operate at depths of up to 1,000 metres.
