ASC begins construction of Arafura-class OPVs

ASC Shipbuilding has begun construction of two of 12 modern Arafura-class offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN).

The first two 80- by 13-metre OPVs will be constructed at the Osborne Naval Shipyard in South Australia by ASC with the Australian steel cut in Western Australia by Civmec.

The first pair of OPVs to be constructed will include class lead ship HMAS Arafura.
