Huntington Ingalls Industries awarded US$97 million advance procurement contract for national security cutter

Huntington Ingalls Industries’ Ingalls Shipbuilding division received a US$97 million fixed-price contract from the US Coast Guard on Friday, September 28, to purchase long-lead materials for an eleventh national security cutter (NSC).

The advance procurement funds will be used to purchase major components for NSC 11, such as steel, the main propulsion systems, generators, electrical switchboards, and major castings.

NSCs are 127.4 metres long with a 16.45-metre beam and displace 4,500 tonnes with a full load. They have a top speed of 28 knots, a range of 10,000 nautical miles, an endurance of 60 days, and a crew of 120.
