MMEA wants three “mother ship”-style vessels

An MMEA owned OPV

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency has said it would request that the government acquire at least three multi-purpose mother ships.

The vessels would be able to carry six boats equipped with crew, equipment and logistics supply for up to 21 days at sea.

“The mother ship is better, more profitable and economical for operation,” MMEA director-general Admiral Maritime Datuk Seri Zulkifli Abu Bakar said.

“It is larger than the OPV and can stay in the sea for a longer period.”

The propose vessels would be used to carry out patrols and enforcement in Malaysian waters.
