French Guyana patrol newbuild under construction at Stem Marine

Stem Marine is currently building a patrol boat for the Maritime Affairs Department of French Guyana.

The hull of the vessel, made of fibreglass and Kevlar, was infusion moulded. The boat is equipped with a 220kW Volvo Penta marine diesel engine and Hamilton HJ274 waterjet, allowing for a maximum speed of 34 knots.

Designed for patrolling and surveillance, the vessel is fitted with a large, D-shaped, pneumatic lateral fender, designed to function as a floating reserve and protect against impacts. In the fore area, the bow fender is made of high energy-absorbing closed cell foam, to protect the boat from collisions during manoeuvres to approach other boats or piers.

The design of the boat provides an opening at the stern via a folding ramp, for easy access directly from the water line.

The vessel is scheduled for delivery during 2018.
