JFD refines Indian Navy submarine rescue system

JFD has completed the first of its two new submarine rescue systems for the Indian Navy after successful deep search-and-rescue vehicle (DSRV) trials.

Under the £193 million (US$269 million) contract, JFD is providing two complete fly-away submarine rescue systems to the Indian Navy, including DSRVs, launch and recovery systems (LARS) equipment from Caley Ocean Systems, transfer under pressure (TUP) systems, and all logistics and support equipment required to operate the service.

A build-completion ceremony will be held at JFD’s Renfrew manufacturing facility on February 23, before final commissioning and trials.

JFD said the final integration of a complete submarine rescue system within a single manufacturing facility was a world first, enabling engineers to test in-situ how each component part will integrate to deliver the optimum submarine rescue capability.

Delivery is scheduled for June.
