Fugro has begun a pre-installation and route engineering survey project to support UK-based Xtera Communications on a major fibre-optic cable installation in the North Sea between Norway and the UK.

Fugro will also advise on final route selection and the required burial conditions to minimise risk of cable damage from anchoring and trawling.

The survey will run for approximately 70 days and will comprise a geophysical survey and shallow geotechnical testing with environmental sampling, analysis, and testing to generate a thorough understanding of the planned route.

The 65-metre multi-purpose vessel Fugro Galaxy will be used for the project.
