Irish Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue, has confirmed that €10.5 million (US$10.65 million) will be allotted for capital works including development of a 120-metre-long quay at Smooth Point, Killybegs Fishery Harbour Centre, County Donegal.

The project will see the long-waited completion of additional quay space in the harbour, which Mr McConalogue said is Ireland’s premier fishing port. The extension will help alleviate congestion during the peak fishing season.

This final phase involves the removal of the remaining uncontaminated sediments and construction of the additional 120-metre quay wall.

The works will be executed by Sorensen Civil Engineering beginning in the coming weeks. Completion is scheduled within seven months.
