VESSEL REVIEW: Rua Khut 5 – Dredger and hopper barge pair for Chao Phraya, Thailand

The Port Authority of Thailand has accepted delivery of a newbuild dredger and a pair of hopper barges.

The IHC-designed dredger, named Rua Khut 5, will maintain navigational depth in the Chao Phraya River, which runs through Bangkok.

Rua Khut 5 is 61.5 metres long, with a moulded beam of 11.5 metres, hull draught of 1.45 metres, and moulded depth of 2.46 metres.

Classed by BV, she has a crew of 12 and can dredge at depths of up to 15 metres. Her main engine is 746kW at 1,015rpm, and she is equipped with an auxiliary engine of 624kW at 1,800rpm.

Rua Khut 5 is supported by a pair of hopper barges, named Rua Din 11 and Rua Din 12. These measure in at 40.2 by 10.4 by 3.4 metres each, and have a hopper capacity of 300m³.
