Van Oord orders two water injection vessels from Kooiman

Van Oord has placed an order for two water injection dredging vessels from Kooiman Marine Group.

The vessels will have water injection dredging, mass flowing, and power jetting systems as well as very limited draughts that will enable them to perform maintenance dredging in shallow harbours.

Each vessel will be equipped with diesel electric engines to reduce CO₂ emissions and a hybrid energy management system that stores in onboard batteries the energy that would be otherwise lost from residual heat. This energy may be subsequently used for other purposes including propulsion.

The first of these two IMO Tier III compliant vessels is scheduled to be commissioned in late 2020.
