The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has confirmed that it will include additional dredging operations in their regular maintenance of Manteo-Shallowbag Bay, Silver Lake Harbor, and New River Inlet in North Carolina.

A special request for an additional US$1.3 million for these projects was made to the USACE by Greg Murphy, US Representative for North Carolina’s Third District, via the Office of Management and Budget. The request has been granted, and work is expected to be completed by the end of the fiscal year.

Mr Murphy said the additional work in Silver Lake Harbor will ensure its waters are safe enough for the North Carolina Ferry System to continue carrying passengers to and from Ocracoke Island.
