Oregon's Fourth Congressional District has secured an additional US$11.7 million from the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) for dredging and maintenance at five ports in the southwestern portion of the state.

The funding will cover the dredging of Chetco River, Coos Bay, Coquille River, and Rogue River at Gold Beach, and both dredging and environmental activities at Siuslaw River.

Peter DeFazio, US Representative for Oregon's Fourth District and one of three legislators who had requested the additional funds, said that the dredging will benefit the state's commercial fishing and ocean tourism industries.
