US federal grant to finance dredging of future offshore wind terminal on Staten Island

The Empire State Development Corporation will be awarded a US$48 million federal grant to fund a dredging project at the Arthur Kill Terminal on New York’s Staten Island to make way for an offshore wind staging and assembly facility.

Approximately 740,000 cubic yards (565,770 cubic metres) of material will be dredged to create a 35-foot (10.6-metre) deep ship basin to support further development of an offshore wind staging and assembly facility.

The staging and assembly facility will contain 32 acres (12.9 hectares) of upland area, a 1,365-foot (416-metre) long wharf with an adjacent laydown area that has enhanced load-bearing capacity, a tenant area consisting of a combined warehouse and office building, and a project owner’s area consisting of an office building.
