The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has taken delivery of the second heavy-duty cutter suction dredger (CSD) in a series ordered from Netherlands-based Royal IHC.

The 29,190kW Hussein Tantawy will soon join sister vessel Mohab Mameesh in carrying out maintenance dredging of the Suez Canal.

The new dredger measures 147 by 23 metres and is capable of dredging at depths of 35 metres. It will soon be transported to Egypt, where final commissioning will take place.

Hussein Tantawy and Mohab Mameesh were ordered from Royal IHC in October 2017 under a contract valued at approximately €300 million (US$357 million) to help modernise the SCA’s current fleet of dredgers.
