Simuay River flood control dredging gets Philippine government approval

The Philippine Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has approved a PHP 1.4 billion (US$27 million) project to dredge and realign portions of the Simuay River in Maguindanao province.

The DTI states that the dredging works will help mitigate the effects of recurring flash floods in Maguindanao which have resulted in severe economic losses in the form of destroyed crops, livestock, and other property.

A joint venture formed by local contractors Classic Centre International (CCIL) and JMI Sand and Gravel will carry out the dredging works.
