Port of Halifax commences berth extension

Port of Halifax

Work on the temporary South End Container Terminal berth extension at the Port of Halifax in Nova Scotia has commenced.

This comes after the Halifax Port Authority board of directors’ August 2018 decision to expand the port’s capacity and infrastructure to better accommodate larger containerships.

The port’s present capacity enables it to serve only one large containership at a time, according to Port of Halifax spokesperson Lane Farguson.

Construction is anticipated to be complete in the first quarter of 2020.
