Keel-laying ceremony for Cuban TSHD

Royal IHC has held a keel-laying ceremony for a 3,700-cubic-metre trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) being built for Cuba’s Tecnoimport and Empresa Constructora de Obras Maritimas.

The twin-screw TSHD is being upgraded with options including larger crew accommodation, booster pump that enhances shore-pumping capacities to more than four kilometres, and dynamic positioning system that will help to navigate through narrow passages around the Cuban coast.

The 92.9-metre by 16.5-metre newbuild will be deployed for maintenance works and beach nourishment projects at depths up to 50 metres.

Accommodating 10 crew, the TSHD has an operating speed of 12 knots.
