Jan De Nul completes deepening works at Maputo, Mozambique

Jan De Nul Group has completed maintenance dredging operations in the Port of Maputo, Mozambique, for the Maputo Port Development Company.

The trailing suction hopper dredger Francesco di Giorgio and the water injection dredger Henri Pitot started the dredging works in October 2019. They removed 1.5 million cubic metres of accumulated silt, mud, and sand in four months’ time, focusing on the Matola, Katembe, Polana, Xefina, and Northern Channels.

Jan De Nul had earlier carried out capital dredging works at the port in 2016, enabling access for vessels with displacements of up to 80,000 tonnes.
