Hutchison Ports begins port expansion project in Karachi

Hong Kong-based Hutchison Ports, through subsidiary Hutchison Ports Pakistan, has commenced construction of the second phase of the Pakistan Deep Water Container Port project.

The project seeks to increase the Port of Karachi’s current cargo handling capacity of 1.5 million TEUs to 3.2 million TEUs by 2020.

The expansion works have an approximate cost of US$240 million.
