Dredging works begins soon in eight Bangladesh rivers

The Bangladesh Water Development Board (WDB) is planning to dredge eight rivers in Moulvibazar and Sunamganj districts. 

Media reports said the dredging program, which aims to restore navigability of waterways and save crops from floods, will be conducted under an operation named “Early Flood Control and Irrigation Improvement Project” in the Haor region.

The works will target Juri River (10 kilometres), Sunai River (8.0 kilometres), upper Boulai River (16 kilometres), Jadukata River (6.0 kilometres), Old Surma River (40 kilometres), Chamti River (20 kilometres), Noljur River (10 kilometres) and Rokti River (6.5 kilometres).

The capital dredging scheme is scheduled to be completed by June 2019.
