Infrastructure Malta has commenced dredging works to help improve safety and navigability in the island country's Grand Harbour.

The project aims to remove tonnes of silt and other sediment from the seabed in the inner waters of the Port of Valletta to make it accessible to larger vessels.

The works have a total cost of €7 million (US$6.96 million). Assisting in the project is Grane R, a grab dredger owned by Denmark-based Rohde Nielsen.
