Dredger spills over 3,000 litres of diesel during fuel transfer in Houston Ship Channel

A diesel fuel spill incident occurred near Buffalo Bayou in Texas on the morning of Wednesday, October 17.

US Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a report from the captain of the dredger Susan Crosby (pictured) that, during a fuel transfer, the vessel’s tank overflowed and released an estimated 3,785 litres of diesel fuel into the Houston Ship Channel just north of City Dock 45.

The source of the spill has been contained.

Sector Houston-Galveston’s Incident Management Division has deployed absorbent boom using their oil spill response boats to help with clean-up efforts.
