DEME tapped for massive dredging and reclamation project in Egypt

DEME Group has secured a contract for dredging and land reclamation works at the Abu Qir port project in Egypt.

This vast project includes the reclamation of 1,000 hectares of new land, the deepening of the port’s approach channel to 23 metres, and the dredging of a turning basin to 22 metres. An enormous volume of more than 150 million cubic metres will be dredged.

The project will see the deployment of DEME’s giant new cutter suction dredger Spartacus, which is due for delivery in 2021.

The main works are expected to commence in 2021 and are due for completion by 2023.
