Curtin Maritime to introduce large clamshell dredger into service

Long Beach, California-based marine contractor Curtin Maritime Corporation has unveiled the first images of a new clamshell dredger slated for delivery to the company in the near future.

Curtin said DB Avalon will be the largest clamshell dredger in North America with a rock bucket capacity of 198,000 pounds (89,811 kilograms).

The vessel will also be equipped with automated dredging software, four spuds, and a hybrid diesel-electric arrangement that will comply with US EPA Tier IV emission standards.
