The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has awarded California-based marine projects company The Dutra Group a contract for erosion protection works on the Sacramento River.

The project will provide three miles (4.8 kilometres) of waterside erosion protection for the stretch of the Sacramento River between the South End of Sacramento’s Pocket neighbourhood and the Pioneer Memorial Bridge.

Barges will be utilised to transport and place the rock for erosion protection to help minimise the impact to the local community. In-stream woody material and planting benches will also be constructed to create habitat for native species.

This contract has a value of approximately US$77.8 million.
