Keel laying signals start of world’s most powerful CSD

A keel-laying ceremony has been held for DEME’s cutter suction dredger (CSD) Spartacus, which it claims is the most powerful CSD built.

The ceremony at the Royal IHC shipyard in Krimpen aan den IJssel in the Netherlands marks a milestone the start of construction of the 44.18kW CSD.

DEME said Spartacus would be able to dredge in waters of up to 45 metres.

The dredger will be capable of operating in very remote locations with limited infrastructure, given the fuel autonomy and accommodation capacity.

The 164-metre-long Spartacus will be the world’s first dual-fuel CSD when she joins the DEME fleet in 2019.
