Texas-based marine projects company Callan Marine has confirmed its plans to expand its vessel fleet with the acquisition of the largest trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) ever to sail under the US flag.

The vessel, which will be named Admiral Nimitz, will measure 422 by 92 feet (128.6 by 28 metres) and have a hopper capacity of 16,000 cubic yards (12,232 cubic metres). It will also have diesel-electric propulsion, a maximum draught of 28.8 feet (8.7 metres), the ability to dredge at a depth of 100 feet (30.4 metres), and space for 28 crewmembers.

Admiral Nimitz will be the fifth dredger to join Callan Marine’s current active fleet.
