CSD ordered for Middle East maintenance dredging works

Boskalis’s cutter suction dredger Helios.

Royal Boskalis Westminster (Boskalis) and a Cypriot partner have been awarded a contract for long-term maintenance dredging works in the Middle East.

They will develop and build an electrical cutter suction dredger for the works, which will begin after the commissioning of the vessel in 2019.

Powered through an onshore 33kV powerline connection, the 100-metre shallow water vessel will have a capacity of 8,250kW, allowing it to pump the dredged material over a distance of 7.5 kilometres.

Boskalis said the annual revenue from the project would amount to EUR25 million (US$29 million) over an 11-year period, meaning the investment would be fully recovered within the contract.

The dredger will be transferred to the client at the end of the contract.
