The New South Wales government in Australia, through its Maritime Infrastructure Delivery Office (MIDO), is finalising a contract for emergency dredging works to be carried out in Swansea Channel, the main marine gateway to Lake Macquarie.

MIDO has advised that the contract is being finalised with works to be completed before the end of December 2022. It will be the first time the channel will be dredged in more than a year.

Transport for New South Wales said that due to the dynamic nature of Swansea Channel, there will be continual need for interventions such as dredging to maintain the channel. Sand buildup is a regular occurrence, making the waters difficult for recreational boaters to navigate.
